Application of Water-cooled Light Fastness Tester TF422
A Xenon Test Chamber (Weatherometer), also named Xenon Arc Weatherometer, is a water-cooled type of xenon testing chamber. This Xenon Tester measures the light fastness and aging resistance of textiles, plastics, rubber products, or materials. Besides, the weatherometer is also called a light fastness testing machine for adopting a water-cooled long-arc-xenon lamp and racking sprays to provide both light and dark cycles and natural weather conditions. Moreover, people also name it Fadeometer as its final testing purpose is to check the color fading features.
In the testing, they are under the exposure to the simulated conditions of natural weather, such as daylight, rain, temperature, humidity, etc. When the test finishes, you can get an accurate result of the light fastness.
Test Principle
Expose the specimen of the textile under specified conditions to light from a xenon arc lamp and to water spray. Meanwhile, expose the eight dyed blue wool references to light. But we also need to protect it with a sheet of window glass from water spray. Lastly, assess the light fastness by comparing the change in color of the specimen with that of the references. If the instrument is to determine the wet photosensitive textiles, no need to expose the blue wool standard. Instead, use the gray sample card to make a comparative assessment.

The Comparison of Water-cooled Light Fastness Tester and Air-cooled Light Fastness Tester
1. Different lamp installation positions.
The lamp of the Water-cooled Light Fastness Tester is installed in the middle of the equipment in a vertical installation, and the turntable with the sample rotates around the lamp. So the distance between each sample to the lamp is equal, to ensure that each sample gets the same irradiation intensity irradiation, with good comparability. It requires cold water equipment and a pure water system and is therefore relatively expensive.
The lamp of the Air-cooled Light Fastness Tester is installed on top of the inner box of the equipment, is installed horizontally, the sample holder is installed in the middle of the inner box, and the distance between the lamp and the sample can be adjusted according to the size of the sample, its advantage is characterized by simple structure, larger test space, suitable for testing samples of different sizes.
